Wednesday Summer Classes at LAAFA





Here are some Wednesday Classes we are offering...

Class: 1223 Figure Quick Sketch
Time and Day: 7pm-10pm, Wednesday
Instructor: Kirk Shinmoto




Course Description- The goal of this class is to develop your understanding of the human form, both in how it moves and how it is constructed. Emphasis will be placed on considering the whole figure as a complete idea. We will cover gesture, form, and the indication of the two in understanding how to rapidly draw from the model.

Class: 2056 Contemporary Portrait Painting
Time and Day: 7pm-10pm, Wednesday
Instructor: Eric Pedersen


Course Description – Contemporary Portrait Painting is designed to enable the student to apply traditional methods of paintings to contemporary ideas. This class encourages creative thinking to allow the artist to produce work that is unique to their own personal vision. Through examples of other contemporary figurative paintings, and one-on-one sessions with the instructor, the student will begin to develop a visual language that is unique to themselves and the culture they live in.


Class: 4250- Animation Background Layout – Environment Design
Time and Day: 7:00pm-10:00pm
Instructor: Robert St Pierre



Course Description- This course explores the fundamentals of environment design. The class will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of what goes into designing environments including a step by step process which will culminate with the students producing environment drawings of their own. Weekly lectures and demonstrations will cover topics such as staging and composition, 1, 2, 3 and 5 point perspective, scaling characters, visual story telling, natural and artificial lighting, thumbnails and rough sketching, final line and line quality and tonal drawings. Students will be expected to work within the classroom as well as manage homework assignments.


Class: 2368- 20th Century Old-Master Portrait/Figure Painting A and B
Instructor: Michael Siegel
Wednesday, 10am-1pm


Course Description- In this class, students will learn to paint the portrait using the chiaroscuro approach of the Dutch and Flemish masters. Particular attention will be paid to light and shadow, as well as the use of value, color, edges and brushstroke in creating a painting with a visual concept.
