More Summer Classes at LAAFA

Basic Painting Fundamentals
(Starts Aug. 14th - 5 weeks)
Instructor: Eric Pedersen
Saturday, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Basic Painting Fundamentals is designed toteach the student very elementary ideas that will continue to inform their art for the rest of their careers. Through various exercises and specific methods, the student will understand the fundamental language (value, shape, proportion and form) of representational painting. The student will then begin to understand a simple process of creating an illusion of a three dimensional object on a two dimensional surface.


Long Pose Figure Painting
(Starts August 3rd - 6wks)
Instructor: Aaron Westerberg
Tuesday, 12pm-3pm ($295) or 12pm-5pm ($450)

This course will focus on the fundamentals of picture making and direct painting from a live model. We will use and discuss various starting techniques such as a rough compositional drawing, under- painting or grisaille, and color studies. There will be daily instructor demonstrations and critiques. Most of the poses will be 2 weeks.

Landscape/Plein Air Painting
(Starts Aug. 21st - 5wks)
Instructor: Jeannie Brunnick
Saturday, TIME CHANGE 9am-1pm

Always With the great California outdoors as inspiration, students focus on learning to duplicate the exact light of day, interpret the landscape into meaningful shapes and color patterns, and how to capture the essence of the world around them. Each week the class meets at a different location, with the first course meeting on campus. Please Note: You will be required to drive to various locations, and occasionally pay parking fees and park fees as part of this course. We will explore the basic techniques and concepts of Plein Air painting such as, value, shape, edges and color, composition, color mixing, brushwork, blending
